Rich and Strange (1931)

After receiving an advance inheritance, a bored London couple set off on a world cruise hoping to rejuvenate their marriage and escape their dull routine. ANYTHING BY HITCHCOCK IS GUARANTEED TO BE GOOD AND THIS IS NO EXCEPTION. IT DOES SHOW ITS AGE, BUT IT IS A FINE FILM NONE THE LESS WITH THE DIRECTOR'S TRADEMARK TOUCHES THROUGHOUT

Watchable in parts and there are some Chinese Pirates but lacking subtlety and the craft of his later efforts

6 ans après son début de carrière en tant que réalisateur, Alfred Hitchcock réalisa enfin en 1931 un film qui mériterait qu'on le considère comme un grand moment de sa filmographie, dans la mesure où Rich & Strange est une comédie de moeurs franchement hilarante, passionnante et dont la morale est bien plus moderne qu'on ne le croit. Sous couvert d'une structure et d'une mise en scène très proche du muet, Rich & Strange se trouve être un des films les plus modernes de la période anglaise d'Hitchcock, dans la mesure où son propos reste valable de nos jours. Henry Kendall & Joan Barry sont époustouflants.

Very early Hitchcock, this one came from the Alfred Hitchcock Legends of Hollywood, which are 12 Public Domain Films by BCI, This is long before Hitchcock started producing great films. About a couple who are struggling to survive when a rich Uncle gives them all the money they need to travel and find happiness, what they find is each cheats on the other and lost there money along with there return voyage ending in a sinking at sea, but they survive only to go back to London to have what they started with, Nothing. This one was made between silent films and Sound and this movie has some of both in it. 2 Stars

Not your usual mystery suspense film from Alfred Hitchcock. It's about a lesson in life. Quite boring.
