Requiem for the American Dream (2015)

Through interviews filmed over four years, Noam Chomsky unpacks the principles that have brought us to the crossroads of historically unprecedented inequality – tracing a half-century of policies designed to favor the most wealthy at the expense of the majority – while also looking back on his own life of activism and political participation. He provides penetrating insight into what may well be the lasting legacy of our time – the death of the middle class, and swan song of functioning democracy.

Brilliant, insightful and prophetic in light of the election 2016 results. If you are not inspired to stand up for justice, solidarity and a better future for humanity by this, you need to check if you have a pulse at all.

Noam tells the story without an agenda, and the fact that the first word of description is "leftist" will prevent many people from learning is unfortunate. He is a great teacher, removing emotion from his story.

Here [Chomsky] crystallizes his ideas, using very plain language in ways every lefty should consider adopting: never strident, almost distressingly calm.

This is not just for Americans. Any person in the developed world should watch this. There should be an uprising. Chomsky speaks eloquently of the unequal distribution of wealth. It is glaring and it is getting worse. A message he spoke of decades ago which is now even more pertinent. I have more disagreed with any of the points he discusses - from economies in developed nations focused on finance instead of manufacturing, to off-shoring, the downfall of democracy, lobbyists and how politics is controlled by the wealthy for their benefit instead of the general population. People are nor interested in voting because there is no one to trust.

One of the more well organized (although brief and simplified) explanations of Chomsky's critique of neoliberalism. Not a great explanation of his alternatives, but a good starting point for someone not familiar with his ideas.
