On the surface, #redarmy is a film about hockey or patriotism, but the further and deeper it goes it's clearly a film about family and loyalty. And if works so well on both levels.

Hockey from the soviet point of view. While I'm not big on the sport, this documentary is a deep reveal on what went on behind the iron curtain. Why the soviets were so damn good at their craft, and what went on with the players. Couple in with socio-political events from the 70's into the early 2000's, and how they impacted the players. Russia is still one of the most important producers of the worlds best hockey players, and this film shows why.

Sports, and hockey in particular, were a propaganda tool for the communist system, which is richly illustrated here in archival footage and poster art.

Wow this was an awesome story. I didn't think it would be my kind of film but a friend dragged me to see it and I loved it. Go in blind and just enjoy.

A fantastic view of Russian hockey through the eyes of Fetisov and the filmmakers.
