One of Kurosawa's crowning achievements. It's epic scope and masterful retelling of King Lear make it a film with no equals that I know of. The subtitles are not too big of a problem, but I think it's best to read through it once and go back and watch it again without the distraction to get the full effect. Top tier filmmaking this!

quite possibly the apex of kurosawa's brilliant career. his version of king lear, perfectly transposed to feudal japan is restrained, beautiful and tragic.
