If one thing can be both disturbing and beautiful this would be it. The eerie chorus at the end always gives me goosebumps. Zhang Yimou tells a simple story in such a poignant way. Very underrated.

Easily my favorite movie and proof of how good Zhang Yimou used to be. The characters are incredibly realistic. This is the kind of movie that makes you realize how mediocre cinema has become nowadays.
