I enjoyed it a lot.. even forwarded one scene because it felt very uncomfortable. Great acting from everyone especially the father and two daughters. Demme should be making a lot of films...

This was a difficult movie to watch... and it was amazing. If you gave it a 0 or 1 then I guarantee that you've never known an addict. Hathaway's performance was phenomenal. I feel that all of the scenes that many reviewers felt were superfluous were designed to bring you closer to the family. The viewer was meant to experience this wedding as if they were part of the family and experience Kym's pain as if it affected them personally. This was of the best films that I have seen this year.

...a striking and powerfully acted drama that perfectly illustrates a portrait of family dysfunction. It is a drama that deciphers the complexities of a family relationship in both sides, the good and the bad. This is a powerfully emotional film about empathy: tragic and sad yet beautifully sweet and authentic. Here we see Anne Hathaway in probably the best performance of her career yet. A Great Movie.

There are times when the acting feels so real, it's almost uncomfortable. Anne Hathaway and Rosemarie DeWitt are highlights in an incredible cast, and Demme's directing is one of the best uses of the hand held, pseudo-documentary style to be seen. A sublime cinematic experience that explores drug addiction, trauma, and family dysfunction with honesty and care.
