Quincy (2018)

An intimate look into the life of icon Quincy Jones. A unique force in music and popular culture for 70 years, Jones has transcended racial and cultural boundaries; his story is inextricably woven into the fabric of America. Jones came to prominence in the 1950s as a jazz arranger and conductor before working on pop music and film scores. He moved easily between musical genres, producing major pop hits of the early 1960s and serving as an arranger and conductor for several collaborations in the same time period.

Stretching to more than two hours, Quincy stumbles into some pacing problems as it goes, and considering the sheer number of turns the man’s life took, one wonders if a miniseries might have served him better.

Daniel Jackson 24 Sep 2018

Quincy offers access and intimacy, but occasionally skimps on psychological nuance or insight into the work itself.

I didn't know very much about Quincy Jones, so this was really cool for me to watch and learn about this legend! The film focused mostly on his achievements and contributions, but I would've liked to see how his brain worked and more interviews with him.

Therefore the arrival of Quincy, a comprehensive chronicle of the extensive musical legacy of the incomparable Quincy Jones, is definite cause for celebration for music fans.

Renee Schonfeld 08 Oct 2018

Docu of prolific musician/composer/producer; some profanity.
