This gritty, grim Korean war drama presents the grueling ordeal of a platoon charged with taking a hill of no military value during the final days of the war. While diplomats and generals argue over peace negotiations (in an appropriately wordless montage under the opening credits), tough but compassionate Lt. Joe Clemons (Gregory Peck) leads a unit of 135 men up a well-guarded hill while miscommunication--and at times no communication--cuts them off from reinforcements and regimental command

To quote Donald Rumsfeld: "You fight with the army you have, not the army you wish you had." That pretty much sums up "Pork Chop Hill", an effective war movie chronicling the taking of the hill during the Korean War. Very frustrating to watch as Gregory Peck and his soldiers have to deal with bad communication, not enough troops, and the fact that they could very well be the last ones to die as the U.S. and China negotiate for a truce. Some great young talent of the day pop up, including Martin Landau, Robert Blake, and Harry Dean Stanton (and Norman Fell. I saw that Rip Torn and Gavin MacLeod were in it as well, but I didn't recognize them in the movie). One of the better war movies of its time with some memorable images, such as soldiers slowly ascending the hill as the Chinese play "Taps" over loudspeakers.

Gregory Peck leads an impressive cast including Three's Company's Mr. Roper (Normal Fell), Martin Landau, George Peppard and Harry Dean Stanton. I really enjoyed this gritty, realistic drama featuring one army company's efforts to take and hold a highly-contested hill in the Korean War. Peck is terrific as are most of the actors and the movie really makes you think about the necessity and tragedy of war. The film ultimately lets you draw your own conclusions about whether the lives lost in this battle were justifiable or not.

A straight forward war story, that mostly takes place in the trenches. Most of the movie is people getting killed, themes of why they are fighting, and a decent cast. Gregory Peck shines as the hardnosed commander who must take Pork Chop Hill and motivate his troops, regardless of the war ending soon. He must take on the enemy as well as the slack of his own troops. There are quite a few good scenes, especially with the demoralizing enemy speaker. He tries to discourage and persuade the American to surrender at every turn, but never to excess. Gregory Peck was the only reason I watched this film. He hands a nice tough leader type role and performs well. The rest of the cast is too sporadic and similar to give any credit. A grim and bleak war film, but with very little substance or style to make it stand apart from other war films.

what the hell flixster people!? This is the greatest War movie ever. eeks out Platoon just barely. Yes it is worthy to have an actors name the same size as the title of the movie. he seriously needs a best actor award of the decade. so peck is divine. the story is remarkable, and fairly accurate? as far as i remember from class. oh my this is FANTABULOUSO!
