Pilgrim Song (2012)

Seeking escape from his stalled relationship and unhappy place in the world, a recently pink-slipped music teacher sets out to hike Kentucky's Sheltowee Trace Trail. Among the verdant hills of Appalachia, he encounters various strange characters and becomes the reluctant companion of a gregarious father and son who ultimately help him rediscover what he's been missing.

Tedium on the Trail could be the alternative title for this logy trek through the woods.

Interesting natural and naturalistic story. Slow moving at times; the characters were convincing if not particularly likable. A story with tensions and conflict that are commonplace yet still poignant may not be for everyone. For me, though, this film is a welcome change from the hyped up violence and over-the-top melodrama that typifies so much of our current entertainment. The scenes of the Appalachian countryside are lovely, and again, while not normal travelogue material, gives the viewer a feel for the region.
