In New York City, an insolent pickpocket, Skip McCoy, inadvertently sets off a chain of events when he targets ex-prostitute Candy and steals her wallet. Unaware that she has been making deliveries of highly classified information to the communists, Candy, who has been trailed by FBI agents for months in hopes of nabbing the spy ringleader, is sent by her ex-boyfriend, Joey, to find Skip and retrieve the valuable microfilm he now holds.

Pretty good noir from the 1950s, with solid acting by Richard Widmark and the always underappreciated Thelma Ritter.

with my mulling time, I now really like it. It's about a girl, Candy, who is acting as a fence for an ex-boyfriend. She thinks she's transporting just a wallet, but it's a secret formula on a hidden piece of film that's the real delivery. On the train, she gets pick-pocketed. She is then pressured to get it back. She finds the pick-pocket and falls in love with him. He doesn't trust her so she finds herself in the caustic middle of the ex, the pick-pocket, the police, and the communists. She chooses to go in the direction of love and gets a lot of people and herself really hurt/dead over it. Luckily she is ok and earns the trust of her pick-pocket love interest. There is so much going on, yet the movie tells it 100 times more succinctly than I ever could.

I liked this film noir from Samuel Fuller. I haven't seen many Richard Widmark films, but though he was great in this. The Cold War themed story is decent, and the camera work excellent. Thelma Ritter was also excellent. Worth watching for classic movie lovers!
