Fortunately, Lisa Crafts' colorful animation intermittently brings welcome charm and life to this otherwise dreary tale.

Phyllis and Harold is really about Phyllis and how discontent has a way of spilling, then spreading. Kleine never quite says so, but her mother’s life was a tragedy.

I was astounded at the selfishness of Phyllis. It is totally untrue that they were deeply in love. Phyllis was in love with another man for her entire life, and even upon her husband's death, she was just happy that she was "free for the first time". Poor Harold, he was deserving of so much more in a wife. He sure did love her. Embarrassing, how their daughters revere such behavior.
