If you're going to tell a heart-warming story about a sweet wronged little old lady,it helps to have a witty, cynical journalist along. Dench & Coogan create a perfect balance.

Frears triumphantly blend a touching journey of a mother finding her long lost son with Coogan's comedy wits into this delicate brew of a heart-stirring tale.

One of those great movies that make you feel and think about it long after the final credits.

Finally got around to watching this last night. Breathtaking and yet subtle. Stephen Frears employs similar efforts from The Queen. Dench is (as always) amazing, but for me it was Steve Coogan who's understated performance (and surprising ability to hold his own against Dench's usual scene-chewing awesomeness) that stole the proverbial show. I had little knowledge of the historical background of the subject and was delighted that it remained "British" and didn't devolve around the Second Act's turn with the revelation about the son (an American film would have made the movie entirely about that... the Brits are so wonderfully sensible on these matters). Just an excellent 90 minutes of British film. Wonderful.
