One of my favorite westerns of all time. This is Sam Peckinpah's masterpiece. The entire cast is great, especially Coburn and Kristoferson. The music fits and it's beautifully shot. The scene between Slim Pickens and his wife while Knockin on Heaven's Door plays in the background is one of the best death scenes I have ever seen.

If 'The Wild Bunch' was the Westerns violent death then this Peckinpah great is picking over the bones of the corpse. An excellent film with a perfect cast and an excellent soundtrack composed by Bob Dylan. Everyone should see this film.

Dirty, masculine, unappologetic; this could be a description of film or director. But Pekinpah created a film that moves at its own pace and piece of mind, never bowing to the constraints of narrative or convention. Coburn; magnatism and Kristofferson; verve and charm, are brilliant in their roles as the men on the other ends of the law. The film's only real flaw is Bob Dylan whose songs sometimes extend beyond the chapter points they should be and a performance that leaves a lot to be desired.

Beautifully realised meditation on the complexities of friendship in a changing world. A poetic film eulogy for the west
