Great emotional, character-driven drama. Interesting, original plot. Well directed - characters are developed well, and the movie does not drift for a moment. Good performances from Mary McDonnell, Alfre Woodard, David Strathairn and Vondie Curtis-Hall.

Passion Fish has the benefit of Sayles' smart dialogue, his eye for and attention to minor details and the riveting performances of two fine actresses.

Heartfelt changes these wonderful characters go through was a pleasure to watch act out.

Some of the extra roles are a bit soupy, but all the main characters were really good. I'd say it was a pretty good film.

One of the great underrated movies of all time. Almost impossible to find for rent, at least in Edmonton. All the performances are terrific. Mary McDonnell and Alfre Woodard are both brilliant, and keep an eye on David Strathairn, in a supporting role as May-Alice's high school crush.
