Pasolini (2014)

We are with Pasolini during the last hours of his life, as he talks with his beloved family and friends, writes, gives a brutally honest interview, shares a meal with Ninetto Davoli, and cruises for the roughest rough trade in his gun-metal gray Alfa Romeo. Over the course of the action, Pasolini's life and his art are constantly refracted and intermingled to the point where they become one.

Pasolini may not be the film we were promised, but it turns out to be something better: a thought-provoking - if not quite masterful - cinematic portrait of an artist whose visionary oeuvre remains poorly understood.

It's profane and it's precious and it glows like the moon.

Even cineastes with a good working knowledge of Pier Paolo Pasolini's life and works are going to struggle to navigate this capriciously intricate account of his final days in November 1975.

Abel Ferrara tries (and fails) to solve the riddle of who killed the famed Italian director.

Despite Ferrara's insistence that he and his key crew are devout students of Pasolini's cinema, he applies the lessons of this apprenticeship freely, without mimicry.
