My Favorite Film Is 1941's Citizen Kane.

Andrew Schenker 05 Oct 2012

It's occasionally too icily removed, but it compensates through its perpetual concern with understanding its characters and their untenable situations.

Stan Hall 14 Feb 2013

A drab, gloomy drama that doesn't provide any real enlightenment about why something so awful could happen.

Tom Dawson 30 Jul 2013

Expertly avoiding sensationalism, this potently acted drama reminds us of Jean Renoir's celebrated dictum, that everyone has their reasons.

Even though the first scene eliminates some of the impact that the end should create, we can't deny how powerful and moving this film is - and Émilie Dequenne is fantastic, conveying with such anguishing intensity the whole suffering of an emotionally depressed woman.
