Cocteau uses his "astonishing" cinematic abilities to merge magical elements and catchy technical camera tricks to confirm himself as a poet, constructing an extraordinary contribution to fantasy in cinema and one of the rarest tragedies ever shown on the big screen. The core of Cocteau's poetry is love and its overwhelming power, even capable of destructing the borders of Death. Just beautiful... 99/100

Cocteau is certainly one of the greatest of all filmmakers, and Orpheus is arguably his best film. A must see.

Perhaps fittingly, I kept falling asleep and waking back up (I think) as I rewatched Orpheus after a many-year break. Cocteau's dreamscape follows the title character through the mirror to romance death herself before re-embracing life and living. Great cinematic moments with hypnotic very special effects. No excess is absurd, indeed.

Amazing. Very different from the play though. And also, Jean Marais reminds me of David Hasselhoff.

An amazing mysterious cinematic adaptation of myths and literature. The applied techniques was quite impressive. More than anything, Jean Cocteau is a poet to me.
