Orca (1977)

After witnessing the killing of his mate and offspring at the hands of a reckless Irish captain, a vengeful killer whale rampages through the fisherman's Newfoundland harbor. I first watched this movie when I was 8 years old. afterwards, I was so terrified of killer whales coming to get me that I always made sure to be on good behavior when I was at the beach. then my parents took me to Marine World to watch orcas "kiss" little kids. I swear I thought those kids were gonna get eaten. :-o

Surprisingly good tale of the costs of revenge. It is not nearly as much of a "Jaws" rip-off as its reputation suggests. The filmmakers actually manage to develop the audience's sympathy for both Richard Harris' character and for the killer whale. Nice mix of real whale and rubber whale footage (which frankly looks more realistic than Bruce the Shark from "Jaws"). Still silly and hokey in parts, but more worthwhile than you average Jaws-clone.
