While different than what I thought it was going to be, open grave delivers on solid acting, solid thrills, and great twists and turns.

This intelligent thriller kept me on edge as the characters journey through the horrors of recovering from amnesia while simultaneously discovering they are in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Creative zombie action escalates throughout the story, but the jump scares are anything but cheap. The plot twists and turns for a full 1 hour 42 minutes, from the gruesome opening to the mind-wrenching final scene. This is a horror movie you can and should give your full attention. If you ever wished there was a mashup of Memento and Walking Dead, here it is.

Half an hour into this movie I would have rated this less but I'm glad I stuck with it because you really have to wait until the bigger picture is revealed. To describe the plot would reveal one of the big plot twists of the movie. It begins like many other movies have with 5 strangers waking up in a secluded location with no memory but this is far from a copy of one of those movies. I really enjoyed it, a great mystery with some very dark plot twists along the way.

The real problem with Open Grave is that screenwriters Eddie and Chris Borey have no game plan for getting from their mysterious premise to their big reveal, which isn’t all that shocking or unexpected anyway.
