Really enjoyed the movie. I am lived close to Trenton for over 30 years, and grew up in the same environment. I like the gritty atmosphere. I liked the actors, actresses and characterizations. Thought the whole thing was fun and true to the spirit of the books. If anything, the movie was too short. It packed in more action and more dialogue that bigger budget and higher profile flicks. IF anything, they could have played the story for a lot more laughs. but - excellent the way it is!

I've been a fan of the books since I was in early highschool. While this adaptation could have been a bit more in depth, it was by no means a bad film. I liked it. The comparisons to Jennifer Aniston's cheesy movie are irrelevant. They aren't of the same class. Perhaps more people who have actually read the books should watch the film. Too many people are happy to criticize something because it's not showy enough.

This is a great movie--if you love the books like I do, you probably also are looking forward to seeing the quick pace and quirky, spirited and imperfect characters live and in action. This movie does not disappoint. I didn't have high expectations, because after all its just a silly story, but it lived up to them and was a well-made film to boot. Granted, Stephanie Plum is a little better looking than I imagined, but its a movie after all and Katherine Heigl owns the role. I thought the adaptation was great and it generally avoided belittling any of the characters while still staying true to the book--no little feat since if you really think about the the book is chalk full of stereotypes that are borderline racist. These stereotypes are subverted during the course of the story of course, but its harder to include that nuance in a movie than a book. Five starts for pulling off one of my favorite comedy/mystery beach reads with style.

I have read many of the Stephanie Plum novels, although not the first one. I knew what to expect and was elated to see how my favorite characters fell together. The first book was written in 1994, so perhaps some of the jokes seem a bit cliche but it takes so long for movies with strong female characters to be made. I found this much more entertaining than many of the popular movie franchises with male leads and/or anything with Adam Sandler in it. This was refreshing in a male dominated film industry. People raking the movie over the coals need to compare it to some of the other crap they try to force on us: horror movies and the Twilight series? Please! This much better than those. And it was fun. Does anyone remember fun?
