Arshaad Ally and Monique Rockman are phenomenal in this film. Number 37 rests on their ability to carry every highly tense situation with just the right amount of emotional weight, and they really deliver. The film delves you in the most chaotic and intense situations that are wildly intriguing to watch. And even though it gets fast-paced, chaotic, and stressful, the film never lets go of its singular vision. Nothing ever feels cheap or unnecessary. I was scared, nervous, and enthralled, which is everything I want from a movie-watching experience.

Number 37 is a film about much more than a drug-deal gone bad or a man in a wheelchair with binoculars. Borrowing the main premise from Alfred Hitchcock’s classic “Rear Window”, director Nosipho Dumisa creates an original storyline that is inherently suspenseful in every scene, beginning the film with surprisingly graphic visuals as a foreshadowing of what’s to come. Elements of suspense and chaos are present throughout, following protagonists Randall and Pam’s attempts at saving themselves, each scheme more desperate and reckless than the one before. This film stands out among other crime thrillers, many of which resort to cliché “bad guys vs. good guys” conflicts that almost always lead to a predictable outcome. So it is not the case however, with Number 37. Would highly recommend this film to those who can appreciate a stylistic, modern thriller about greed, corruption, and the human instinct of survival.

Nosipho Dumisa direction of this film managed to pay homage to Hitchcock's “Rear Window” in a modern fashion. Number 37 contains a fast-paced storyline that adds a level of grittiness to the heart-racing portrayal of South African criminal life. The main actor's fight to rise out of poverty became progressively more thrilling, and by the end, I was on the edge of my seat.

Number 37 is one of the most creative films I have seen by far. With multiple subplots inside the main plot, this film is sure to keep your head spinning and on your toes as it is difficult to determine what happens next. With creative writing and impressive picture, Number 37 kept my interest the entire time and kept me guessing what’s next to come. This film is one of the most suspenseful movies I have seen and director Nosipho Dumisa shows no mercy when it comes to easing up on the suspense. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and can’t praise it enough! I recommend this film to anyone who likes suspenseful movies with clever and artistic writing and an insanely unpredictable plot.

I could not have asked for a better thriller than Number 37. The film follows Randal (Irshaad Ally) after he is confined to a wheelchair and attempts to repay his debt by robbing his murderous neighbor, all without leaving his apartment. The film depicts Randal’s desperation growing as it is not only his fate on the line but that of his girlfriend, Pam ( Monique Rockman) as well. I loved how I was drawn in from the start and was held captive by the story and cinematography until the end. For a film that will keep you guessing, I would highly recommend Number 37.
