Fredric March and Carole Lombard together--hilarious!!!

** (out of four) Carole Lombarde is a woman who believes she is dying. March is a New York City reporter who brings her to New York where she becomes the brave toast of the town. Too uncomfortable to be funny at times and wildly uneven. For now I am leaving my review at 2 stars, however, I was just noticing that the running time is listed at 1 hr and 40 minutes. The rented version I watched ran only 75 minutes. The cut out segments may have filled in some of the gaping holes that I feel are missing. My review could change.

Although the romantic side of this movie is predictable, the comedy is good, and the story is interesting. It's not the best movie, but still pretty entertaining.

Smalltown girl fakes terminal disease to gain fame and money. 30s screwball comedy with the fabulous Carole Lombard, could easily be a satire on today's celebrity culture.

It's amazing how well this movie taps into today's pop-culture fascination with the "celebrity-of-the-moment". Carole Lombard is luminous and it truly was a tragedy that she died just five years later.
