Nora (2008)

"Nora" is based on true stories of the dancer Nora Chipaumire, who was born in Zimbabwe in 1965. In the film, Nora returns to the landscape of her childhood and takes a journey through some vivid memories of her youth. Using performance and dance, she brings her history to life in a swiftly-moving poem of sound and image. A girl who is constantly embattled - struggling against all kinds of intimidation and violence - but who slowly gathers strength, pride and independence.

While its seemed to be more about Joyce than his wife the psychological and sexual (like there's a difference) games each other plays are the what evens the narrative playing feild

As a James Joyce fan, I really liked the film. The acting was great. It was interesting to see Joyce through a focus on his complicated relationship with Nora. I learned about how his regular life was like and how difficult it was to leave Ireland and to deal with his obsessive jealousy and drinking. Opened issues for thought about artists' lives.

Geez, Ewan is the guy I love the most after my father, though not in the same way, but what a bore..

A must-see for Joyce fans, feminist historians great and small and admirers of the Emerald Isle. For everyone else, it's a muddy tale of sex, love, obsession, jealousy, cruelty and abandonment that can keep one at a distance.
