Set before the first World War in part of Poland under Austrian occupation, the story of a young boy in primary school who later grows up to become a rebellious, poetic-minded teen in the same school when the national movement toward liberation is under way. The story of a country where church and state work together to suppress the human spirit.

When I was a kid the story about the giant rat really did give me nightmares.

Fans of the Tales from the Crypt series and The Twilight Zone should appreciate this early-Eighties anthology of horror tales..... I think not!!!! a small collection of pointless stories, the first would make a great advert of quitting smoking... err thats about it. the 2nd was proberly my fav out the stories with Emilio Exteevez as the arcade kid who plays a game to death.. pretty cool... The third i have forgotten about so that says it all. and the last which did grab my attension for a bit then found out it was a giant rat causing mayhem in a family home... In other words.. if you missed this in the 80's.. you didnt miss much

Starring: Christina Raines, Emilio Estevez, Lance Henriksen, Richard Masur, Veronica Cartwright, and Albert Hague. Directed by Joseph Sargent. Written by Jeffrey Bloom and Christopher Crowe. Rated [b]R[/b] (for strong horror violence, some language and sexual content). Running time approximately 1 hour 39 minutes. Joseph Sargent's [i]Nightmares[/i] is a disappointing horror anthology. The first of the four segments is good, but lacks punch. The second involves an overacting Emilio Estevez and some really bad special effects. The third: Lance Henriksen being chased by a demon-possessed pickup truck. The fourth, though it ends very badly (well, maybe not badly, but quite oddly), is the most frightening and satisfying of them all. The film as a whole, though, belongs on television only. For very late nights. Very late. Late.
