This movie is a beautiful portrait of loving thyself just the way you are and just the way you aren't. I highly recommend it. I have learned to love myself and this movie only solidifies this.

Nappily Ever After is an entertaining film about a serious problem: living with and rebelling against some else's idea of perfection. In the movie, both men and women are struggling with this problem. Movie casting is great and the music is banging. And there is just enough sex in the movie to make the attractive couple's relationship seem real.

Nappily Ever After is as much a polemic as it is anything else. In a confrontation with Clint, Violet says she is sick of how much brainspace is taken up with her hair. "It's like having a second full-time job," she exclaims, exhausted.

Not sure why everyone's so salty about this film but it's honestly wonderful. It's the first time I've seen a film tackle the issues that come with hair management and stigma for black girls and women; being bound to our hair and expectations, embarassed by it. The film isn't PERFECT but it was honestly uplifting for me, someone who could relate and ended up going through a similar process with my hair when enough was enough.
