Despite its gorgeous soundtrack, historical sweep and wealth of archival material, (the film) is weakened by sluggish pacing and an overly detailed, increasingly narrow focus.

Andy Webster 06 Nov 2017

Viewers unfamiliar with artists like Lukas Foss and Gunther Schuller will find themselves agreeably challenged. And stirred.

Nick Schager 16 May 2012

Andrew Schenker 23 Dec 2012
