Monsters (2010)

Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and half of Mexico was quarantined as an infected zone. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain "the creatures," while a journalist agrees to escort a shaken tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the U.S. border.

Beautiful film. Love the way the film concentrates on the characters more than the aliens. Gareth Edwards delivers!

If you're interested in engaging storytelling amidst some of the most visually striking cinematography and visual f/x work I've experienced, then I highly encourage you to seek out Monsters.

Sadly, this is one of those movies that no one I've ever met has seen, and yet is so good that its lack of popularity is practically a crime. This really was a phenomenal movie - solid acting, tense action, real-world implications, and finally, such emotional connection to the characters that you smile when the characters are having a good time and you feel it when they hurt. Have you ever just seen the last shot of a movie and the second the screen goes black, your jaw just drops? If not, you need to experience it - so do yourself a favor and pick up Monsters. If so, pick up Monsters anyway. It is that good.
