I wonder how something that is so cute can turn into a killer. A weird, twisted little Romero flick. End of story.

:rotten: :rotten: :rotten: :rotten: :rotten: Back when I was working in movie theaters, I would often be stopped by customers. "Is this movie any good ?" They would ask. At first I never had a problem, letting people know what was good and what was bad. It got old really fast and sometimes they would get mad at me If I liked it. Everything I review, is just what I feel about the movie. It will never be my fault if some dumbass doesn't "get" the good movies and likes the ones that suck like "Jurrasick Park" That film sucks. A customer asked me if this one was any good. This was the film where I started to just tell them, no matter what the film. "It's awsome your gonna love it. You will never need to se a scary film ever again because this is the end of the line" He stated that he was a Romero fan so I thought I couldn't loose. He hated it so bad, that when it was over, he wanted to fight me because of my review. so I need you to know it sucks.

Monkeys aren't as bad as chimps or baboons, but they still bite. If you want to see a movie about a crazy primate, go rent Shakma if you can find it. George Romero presents a movie about a quadriplegic played by Jason Beghe (now no friend to the Church of Scientology) and his monkey Ella played by Boo. This is a horror movie with little horror and little gore. Most of the violence happens off screen. It's not as good as it could be because the acting is so-so and there are subplots that go nowhere. This is like Play Misty for Me where the psycho woman is a monkey.

What makes Monkey Shines special--beyond Romero's cinematic lucidity and sheer storytelling ability and the talent of his cast and crew--is the ambivalent responses aroused by monkey Boo as Ella.

(***): Thumbs Up I had fun with this movie, even though it really hasn't aged all that well (I know its 22 years old, but this movie is cheesy!). Entertaining.
