Miss Kicki (2009)

Kicki has after several years abroad returned to Sweden. Her 17-year old son has been brought up by his grandmother and has a very distant relationship to his mother. In an effort to get reacquainted Kicki invites her son to join her on vacation in Taiwan. But her hidden agenda is that Taipei is also the home of the Taiwanese businessman with whom she has been conducting an Internet romance.

When West (Swedish, Scandinavian) meets East (Taiwanese, Chinese). The mother-son awkwardness is a little bit overdone at the beginning; whilst the homoerotic description is a bit loud although which had been largely toned down already. Still, average in general. Predicaments, like the Changs' house scene & the Kicki-Viktor-Didi breakfast at the vacation villa scene, are particularly well handled.

A suprisingly good film that I had nerver heard of intill It was showen on SVT the otherwise night. Pernilla August is reallly good here, the script is good, and so is the Taiwan setting.

I thought the two main actors (Pernilla August and Ludgwig Palmell) were convincing as a dysfunctional family torn apart by the mother's restless, wandering ways and immature relationships she seems to form with all the men around her. But the shallow, unexplored relationship between the son Viktor and Didi made me want to scream at the screenwriter. Why introduce some chemistry between the two characters and leave the motivation and outcome so frustratingly unresolved and unexplored? I felt as manipulated by this cock-tease as the mother's male friends.
