A brilliant film about an unlikely friendship in adversity. John Voight's character surpresses his disturbing memories to live in the present, whil Dustin Hoffman's Ratso dreams of the future to take his mind off his current problems. A very moving film.

This movie is a very fine film with a lot of merits. The film does look great, with beautiful scenery and crisp cinematography and the lighting is very atmospheric and always fits perfectly with every scene. The music is wonderful, with the highlight being the excellent Everybody's Talking', the story is very strong focusing on the friendship of the two main characters and well-paced and the dialogue is thought-provoking and poignant. The direction is top notch using every trick in the book and wonderfully and the characters constantly captivate. And this is helped by the magnificent playing of Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffmann, especially Hoffmann who I personally think should have got the Best Actor Oscar that year. Overall, a truly fine film.

great film with two great characters. It is more about how the characters live life and a great story driven by great performances. The idea behind becoming a hustler even though obviously awful is portrayed to show the audience members who might not now just how impoverished you can become when trying to look for the easy way out and what lengths you take to get any money.

This movie, although it's disturbing at times, its not at the point where it has you covering your eyes. In fact, I found myslef staring at Jon Voight the entire picture realizing how much he looks like Angelina Jolie, but thats besides the point. I do believe this is the best acting Dustin Hoffman has ever done in a film. I'm sure people can say Rainman kicked ass, but I think this is his most memorable. He's scrufy, incredibly dirty, dying for a shower and he has the accent, that New Yorker Bronx that I find so hilarious. Jon Voight and him make a real partnership, and they really have a great chemistry on screen.
