An edited version of Rosefeldt's installation work of the same name, Manifesto is an outstanding tribute to various (art) manifestos of the nineteenth and twentieth century, ranging from Communism to Dogme, in connection with thirteen different characters, including a homeless man, a factory worker and a corporate CEO, who are all played by Cate Blanchett. A striking humorous audio-visual experience.

This movie IS for everybody! However it is highly artistic and not for those looking for a pure high adrenaline comedy or action movie to entertain you. The content draws on life, man and art, providing an excellent message if you are willing and able to hear it.

It largely works ... on the basis of how playfully it captures the manifesto's desire to collapse art and form (and the formation of an artistic revolution) into its own singularity.

Whatever Rosefeldt intended, Manifesto doesn’t quite set forth a manifesto of its own. But it’s a blast of fresh air. And like many of the gauntlet throwers it cites, it risks looking foolish and, in the process, creates something gorgeously defiant.
