It can be classed as an epic, but this tale of self-redemption doesn't need to be as there is clearly not enough substance to warrant it. The film feels devoid of pace and suffers for it.

A bungled first act that deflates the inciting incident is balanced out by a stronger second act and an emotional, albeit dragged out, third. Top casting and lavish Oriental locations help out too.

Too long for its own good... I managed to watch the entire thing w/o ever really knowing what was going on except that there was something to do w/weapons and Peter O'Toole looked awfully adorable in his wardrobe. Very epic in look, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
