Delicate and unhurried almost to a fault, though also hauntingly sexy and even humorous at times.

Lilting is not only a beautiful depiction of grief, love and hardship, but also a fantastic piece of representation for the LGBTQ+ community, as Richard and his partner's relationship is presented to us with nothing other than normalcy and tenderness.

Khaou’s film features masterful performances from Whishaw and Cheng, whose dialogue is somehow intensified, rather than diluted, through the third-party voice of the translator. But some emotions, the film suggests, are impossible to adequately articulate in any language.
