Incredibly inspiring, totally humbling and beautifully shot. AND it has Batman in it!

The filmmaker did an amazing job of presenting how the legend of Batman has inspired real people with real challenges to fight harder and overcome. This film is thorough and compassionate and mesmerizing in places. I find myself thinking about Petaluma Batman and going to sleep some nights just thankful that these people exist in the world. Being a female with other interests as a kid, Batman never did much for me. But seeing Batman's influence over the people in this film has done a great deal for me. So in that way, I'm now a Batfan, too. Find a way to see this film! It will change you and change your view of the world.

I missed seeing this as part of the festivities for Batman's 75th anniversary at my local comics shop this past year. I was glad to see it turn up on Netflix recently. The uplifting stories of ordinary people inspired to live better lives based on the example of Batman, who has no superpowers, are wonderful. Some are given more attention than others. The philosophical talking heads could have been edited more selectively. Unfortunately, Brett Culp, the producer, cinematographer, editor, writer, and director of this doc spends an inordinate amount of time interviewing producer Michael Uslan. Uslan is responsible for producing, or initiating, the big-budget Batman films in Hollywood after not being satisfied with the joke made of Batman in the 60s TV show. Anyways, the film shows a bit of Batman history and several people doing good in this world. According to Common Sense Media, an alternative to the MPAA that I like, it is appropriate for kids 10 and older.

There were some fun and uplifting stories in here about how people have been inspired by Batman but I mainly enjoyed the parts about Michael Uslan, the man who really spearheaded the Batman films. People laughed at him when he first tried to get a Batman movie made, but he was determined to see it through. The problem with this documentary is the SOUNDTRACK. Yikes. You know that sentimental/dramatic/inspirational music they have towards the end of most documentaries where everything comes full circle? Well they play that music throughout the ENTIRE thing. Ouch. The friend I watched this with had the exact same reaction to the music so I know it's not just me.
