This movie has been unfairly downgraded. I can't quite give it a 10 but it's a solid 9: a nasty dystopian fantasy somewhat like Gilliam's Brazil but much more willing to twist the knife. Sutherland is perfect in his role and Fiennes isn't far behind. I strongly disagree with the critics on this one.

Mr. Edwards, who wrote and directed Land of the Blind (it's his debut film), might counter that the movie is a Brechtian comedy that's not supposed to make literal sense: the big picture is what matters. But the big picture is a mess.
