The death of King Henry VIII throws his kingdom into chaos because of succession disputes. His weak son, Edward, is on his deathbed. Anxious to keep England true to the Reformation, a scheming minister John Dudley marries off his son, Guildford to Lady Jane Grey, whom he places on the throne after Edward dies. At first hostile to each other, Guildford and Jane fall in love, but they cannot withstand the course of power which will lead to their ultimate downfall.

this movie was actual better than i thought it would be

i saw this movie for the first time 6-7-08. i didn't know this movie was made in 1986.i love helena bonham carter! great movie! i can't believe people were so stupid back then. how could england put prince phillip II of spain on the throne as mary I husband? battles between catholicism and protestantism show how ignorant people were back then. see joan of ark. there was such hatred towards spain i.e with the inquistion and later the armada, one has to ask why would england have spainish blood on the throne? if one was protestant you risked heresy and death. such was lady jane. grey. great acting and very well made.

i do believe helena is being typecast in period films. but whatever, she still looks great in period gowns!
