The authentic African atmosphere is innovative for a 1950s studio picture. The use of traditional African tribal dances and rituals add a level of realism to the film that wouldnâ??t be found in other adaptations of the novel. Still, for an adaptation of "King Solomonâ??s Mines," this hardly qualifies as a version of "King Solomonâ??s Mines."

Monday, June 25, 2012 (1950) King Solomon's Mines ADVENTURE Most realistic portrayl of Allan Quatermain whose been turned into an mythical "Indiana Jones" type of figure in the 1980's starring Richard Chamberline ever since the success of "Raiders Of The Lost Ark". Anyways, actor Stewart Granger as Quartermain an Englishman whose lived in Africa most of his life, a hired guide through the jungles of Africa aiding Elizabeth Curtis played by the ravishing Deborah Kerr in search of her archeologist husband who was pronounced missing. The chemistry and the arising sexual tension between Kerr and Granger are the main highlights here, with interesting tidbits about African natives as well including it's culture is just as entertaining as "The Naked Prey" and "Trader Horn" to name a few. WARNING: Don't expect this film to be another Indiana Jones type of film, first by considering the time it was made and second by it's synopsis. 3 out of 4

Fine movie, a bit simple, but to be the first film that was filmed in Africa must have made it quite the hit.

This action-adventure boasts as one of the first few productions shot on location. Granger is a perfect Quartermain and Kerr has never been lovelier. It would have better with a longer screen time specially in the section where Quartermain and company finally reached the mines. It's only flaw is its utter disregard to animal rights however it was filmed 20 years before animal rights activism has began to receive support and acceptance.

Take Cover! Here comes a stampede of every species in the Animal Kingdom - and we're trapped in the middle of it all! There were plenty of laughable and ridiculous moments in this movie, but overall it was enjoyable. It was meant to be flashy and entertaining, and it was just that. The wildlife encounters were farfetched in their frequency, but surprisingly accurate in the character's (specifically Allan Quatermain's) understanding of nature. There were some nice thematic elements woven into the film as well. If you like old movies with the occasional ridiculously unrealistic scenes, then this film is for you.

Highly recommended for you
