When Kicks is able to find the right balance between narrative emotion and spectacle, the result is one powerful piece of work.

Kicks, I figure it's about a pair of shoes but I couldn't understand why there's an astronaut. And after watching the whole, I still couldn't figure it out. I have some guesses like astronaut represent, pure, white, prestige, educated, floating, the other image to far fetch like Air Jordan astronaut and Space Jam. Even the bullet didn't help. The plot is pretty straight forward. As crazy as it sound to get shoes back, consider the kid lives in poverty and use all his savings for that pair of shoes, it's plausible. The music, I would love to hear more local artists or rap in the movie but instead, mostly instrumental. Probably due to copyright. Finally, if there's anything good about the movie, it's the acting. Everyone feels so natural in their acting. No one really have to pretend. It reminds me of Hmong people in Gran Torino. They simply be themselves. I just wish the astronaut in the movie can be more clear to understand but other than that, it's good. Oh, the sneaking to house/shooting scene can really get you on your toes! D+ grade.

This movie is so real, and you can feel the characters. I would say this movie is better then NWA because you actually can believe that characters really are these people. NWA had good actors but I didn't believe or feel that the actor totally became the characters like this movie!!!!!

One of the best movies I've ever seen. I laughed I cried, it was so artful and real. The acting was superb and the plot was one that tears at your heart. It's such a great film.

Just watched it. Very good modern take on our society and its issues. But it goes off topic sometimes. It really needed more time to explain why this kids mom is never worried where he is or what he buys and has you thinking what would she say. A scene where it felt as if it was about to end but the movie continues going. And you never saw what happened to the kid after. Its very fun and shall NOT be viewed by a younger audience. This movie had a hard R rating. I mean we got over 150 uses of the N word. 50 or more uses of the F word. People smoking and drinking, hell even the 15 year old boy Drinks/ Smokes and Has Sex!!! But again a very fun movie to enjoy. Its fine but very flawed. 6.5/10 (B-) 65% (Fresh)
