During the days of the Berlin Wall a trial in that city for a East German who freely admits that he hijacked a passenger flight in order to escape to the West. Directed by Sean Penn's father, Leo, and including a centerpiece performance by Sean himself, this Martin Sheen production (with a star turn given by Sheen as well) reeks of sentimental liberalism but is nonetheless touching.

Martin Sheen is a judge in a courtroom procedural about extra-territorial application of American law in West Berlin. Sound promising? Well, its terrible and totally cheesy.

The courtroom scenes are filled with wit and drama, lacking in any cliche and false emotion. If the movie had applied the same techniques it used in these scenes to the rest of the movie, it would have helped immensely.
