Jinnah (1998)

Biography of Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of modern Pakistan is told through flashbacks as his soul tries to find eternal rest. The flashbacks start in 1947 as Jinnah pleads for a separate nation for the Muslim minority, infuriating Lord Mountbatten. Mountbatten then tries to enlist Gandhi & Nehru to persuade Jinnah to stop his efforts. Gandhi sides with Jinnah, which upsets Nehru. However, Jinnah turns down the offer to become prime minister and the film takes another slide back to 1916, which reveals all of the political implications that have occurred.

Great movie about a great Personality... well directed by Jamil Dehlavi and well acted by Christopher.

Great Movie on Mr. Jinnah and The Struggle for Independence of Pakistan. Neutral in perception and a great Historical Political Movie. It brought tears in my eyez at few points and made me realized my forgotten Past. Great acting by Lee as Mr. Jinnah.

This is one of the most inspirational movies I have ever watched. Not is it just a beacon of hope and self empowerment, it is also a reminder of how far off we have gone from what our forefathers had originally dreamed of and worked and sacrificed their lives to create. It fills me with guilt to see what catastrophes we have created for ourselves and put the dreams of our forefathers to shame. The plot of this movie is incredible, not only does it maintain a neutral perspective, showing Hindus, Muslims and the British in a negative light some part of the film but it also provides us with an admirable perspective of us all. The acting is incredible and special praise goes to Christopher Lee for a magnificent and a solid performance. The film also takes on to a lighter side with occasionally funny remarks and admirable qualities of Jinnah. This movie is a true masterpiece which no other of its likes can be compared to.

A brave and carefully charted out discourse on the life n times of Jinnah.. I quite expected it to be an anti Gandhi flick.. but it steers clear of the same and tries to show the reasons .. the ideology of Jinnah and the Muslim League that led to the divison of India into 2.. Mountbatten gets a lot of stick though.. From a cinematic perspective it's definitely not in the league of Gandhi.. but nevertheless makes a pretty interesting watch.. The last scene is probably one of the best in the movie when Jinnah meets the migrating families from Ferozepur and asks for their forgiveness..

A very moving appearance by Christopher Lee. Captured the rollercoaster ride immediately before the independence and partition of British India from a purely Pakistani perspective. Maybe with time we will learn about the real roles that were played by the rulers of that age.
