A slow movie with a beautiful, but very sad ending. A question everyone has after watching it, is why "Japan"? Reygadas said in of the interviews "because Japan is the land of the rising sun". I wish this explanation could help! But still it's worth seeing it once.

A monster filmmaker with an intellectual to match. What if I continue a panning up to full circle despite the fact the actor exits off frame in the first quarter? Life is all about this and that, so he seems to say, "I show you this but I also show you everything else". It's like italian Neorealism when you would pitch what you're interested in without beeing dictated by the filmmakers what's important and what's not. Unlike the Western approach, in here they don't tell you, "Look, you're stupid, let me show you". Realist performances, almost bordering hypernaturalism for the sake of film intergrity as a social tool.
