Irresistible lives up to its title with an enchanting twist on a well-trod narrative and thankfully brings back the gifted satirical mind that our crazy world has sorely missed.

Like, it’s fine, but there are just some painfully unfunny and tonally-jarring sequences (Byrne licks pie crumbs off Carell’s face?), and the ending doesn’t just come out of left field; it comes from an entirely different ballpark.

Irresistible could have been something that was just a pleasant enough, throwaway comedy – and it feels like that for most of its running time. If only Stewart read his own word, “resist,” and resisted that ending – that urge to try to turn this movie into something it just isn’t.

If you are a normal individual with untainted political paranoia, you will enjoy the film. If you are radical right or left, especially left, you may want to pass. See condescending dribble written in the Guardian.
