Unrelentingly bleak, Ironweed is a film without an audience and no reason for being except its own self-importance.

Set in the era of Great Depression, Ironweed serves to disclose the hard lives of homeless, the irreparability of mistakes and redemption with unknown final consequence. Jack Nicholson is great in blending his character in Shining and About Schmidt together to place himself in destitute here; while Meryl Streep is playing with the Southern accents again to portray an alcoholic, which is probably her most socially despised role. Unfortunately, the great duo fails to generate the sentiments to empathize me with the presence of The Grapes of Wrath.

a movie that gets consistently tanked and ignored because of it's subject matter. based on one of the books in a trilogy by william kennedy, ironweed tells the story of frances phelan,veteran pro ball player,seasoned drunk and undisputed hardcase. frances returns to albany new york on halloween 1938 after being on the streets of america and estranged from his loved ones for decades. he is compelled by haunting memories of a world that he left behind to visit his family and try to make peace with a tragedy that has no resolution.
