Ip Man 2 (2010)

Having defeated the best fighters of the Imperial Japanese army in occupied Shanghai, Ip Man and his family settle in post-war Hong Kong. Nearly as enjoyable as the original. Its not-so-secret weapon is the poised, calm performance of Yen, who somehow manages to play Ip as both character and archetype.

Ip Man 2 is a great sequel to the first. It has skillfully choreographed fight scenes mixed in with the history of Ip Man. I was happy and excited to see some familiar faces appear left and right. All in all, a great addition to the Ip Man track just falling right below the first Ip Man film.

More slick mainland melodrama than rough-and-ready chop-socky picture, Ip Man 2 often finds itself struggling to reconcile those conflicting impulses between drizzly emotional moments and slap-happy frenzy.

"Ip Man 2" is equally as good as the first one. The fight scenes are entertaining and are very well choreographed by Sammo Hung. But what both "Ip Man" and "Ip Man 2" needs to work on is the script.
