Ryan is clearly enjoying herself. She adroitly maneuvers her trademark cuteness into a kind of oblivious brashness -- a curious mix of brassy and brave.

I'm not into boxing, but I can relate to the woman-in-a-man's-world situation and fight Meg Ryan challenges. And I like her in this movie, so much that the boxing was digested smooooothly
