Shayla Stonefeather, a Native American attorney prosecuting a Lakota teen in a controversial murder trial, returns to the reservation to say goodbye to her dying father. After the teen is killed, she hears ghostly voices and sees strange visions that cause her to re-examine beliefs she thought she left behind.

This saga was somewhat convoluted. I felt disconnected to Christopher; there was no empathy for his stuggle or lost love. I also found that not realizing Michie was more of an entity than a woman made the transforamtion to Komomo ridiculous, rather than profound. But this being an installment in a series, and Miike's first production filmed for english audiences, I put my criticisums aside as watched the movie as a visual storyboard, keeping my focus on the incredible scenery and staggering 'shock' scenes. Fans who know, know what their in for. We want to vicariously feel the pain, and add another notch on our tolenance belt. I guess your always as good as your best work... and Takashi Miike is impressive.

The best thing about this film is its setting amongst a dignified American Indian people. You are promised a twist and you get one. There is some wisdom and perspective in the film that might help some watchers. Interestingly the cosmic vision of the elder is not far from that of some cutting edge physicists. The tall policeman should team up with Steven Seagal film as father and song.

Since there's no entry for the Takashi Miike film imprint, I'll say here that that is one sick movie. Don't watch it. It's good, but horrible. Don't watch it.
