Insane mockumentary about "Joaquin Phoenix's" fore into rapping and self indulgence American Celebrity can cause and losing yourself in it. Ironically this is probably the best acting Joaquin has done by playing himself....well sort of.

I love the idea of this film. Interesting how he managed to pull it off despite all the rumours or his retirement being fake. Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor and makes an extremely believable crazy and troubled person. It's worth checking out him again in the David Letterman show after the film release.

very much enjoyed this film, which documents Joaquin Phoenix's descent from an Academy award nominated actor at the top of his game to a drug-addled, self-indulgent hip-hop poseur . . . the question is: is it real or is it all just a hoax? (by this point in time, most people should know) . . . also, the DVD extras are very entertaining and informative, particularly the commentary from director Casey Affleck (Joaquin's brother-in-law) as well as Joaquin and a handful of the others who appear in the film

I think I would have hated it if I had thought it was real, but *knowing* it isn't--I think it mostly works as a satire of celebrity, the media, & "reality" entertainment. Also knowing it's not real, Joaquin Phoenix is flippin' fantastic. He pulls off the ultimate Andy Kaufman-like performance in the real world.
