The Buffy saga begins with this 1992 movie about Buffy Somers (Kristy Swanson) and her meeting with a man named Merrick (Donald Sutherland) who teaches her the skills to battle the vampires. also stars Luke Perry, Rutger Hauer, Paul Reubens, Michele Abrams, David Arquette, Hilary Swank, Paris Vaughan and Ben Affleck. directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui.

This movie was the beginning of a cult classic. It took a girl you would expect to see in a movie like "Clueless" and turned her into a fighter...a witty one at that. Combined with Luke Perry's charm and the cheesy hissing vampires this movie is sure to make you smile, and probably laugh.

Don't compare it to the TV show. This spoof of classic teen horror movies stands on its own. With Kristy Swanson as the reluctant slayer who would rather go bargain hunting than vampire hunting and Luke Perry as her amiably befuddled guy friend, Buffy's great cast is only outdone by its slick writing and quick comebacks. If you're not into all of that, Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) is marvelously funny as the vampire henchman.

While this may not be cinematic gold one can not help but marvel at the amazing series that came from this, plus Pee Wee Herman played a vampire in this that of course is all kinds of win
