a great satire of the unions and the social structures of 50s Britain. Quite a lot lighter than I was expecting. Sellers and Terry-Thomas are particularly good.

How I miss Terry-Thomas... Early Peter in a dual role. Exceptional cast. Luv PS always.

Slow building, but hysterical drama regarding industrial relations, unions and international trade. While Ian Carmichael is the lead, the supporting cast of Peter Sellers, Terry Thomas, Richard Attenborough and Margaret Rutherford really steal the show. Made in England in 1959, it's interesting to note the racial terminology which would be offensive today and the strong poke taken toward the union workers who are portrayed as lazy slobs that are bilking the companies.

A surprisingly even handed satire on corruption at all levels. Sellers is excellent as the labor union boss - one of those strong convictions but no social prowess types. I especially liked his deer in headlights moment on the television round table. Wish there had been more laughs in general though. The final scene with a group of naked women chasing Carmichael must have been a Monty Python influence.

You cannot beat a Sellers/Thomas combo at their very best. Absolute bounder of a film.
