Akira Kurasawa created this masterpiece. Can a film about a man on the verge of dying be all that great? I say yes! This film puts you in the shoes of Watanabe as he finds out that he has stomach cancer, and will die soon. He then wants to learn how to live, as all he has to show for his life is an attendance plaque from his work. The story is touching, and I don't think that someone can walk out of the film without being touched, give it a chance and see.

I'm used to seeing samurai films from Kurosawa, but this one caught me by surprise in the best way possible. Kurosawa is a freaking genious. This film is a very complex and thought-provoking insight to the human spirit. Definitely a masterpiece.

A haunting film. Kurosawa's best--and that's saying a lot from me, because I love his samurai films.
